Watch Out For These Troubling Housing Signs During The Summer
Your house can get pretty damaged throughout the summer. It’s true! It's not just the winter period that can cause structural damage, or get creepy crawlies coming inside to find somewhere dry to live - the heat can be pretty invasive as well. And that’s why you should be on the lookout for troubling housing signs like those down below. The earlier you spot them, the easier they're going to be to deal with overall.
Watch Out For These Troubling Housing Signs During The Summer
Crumbling Mud Around The Foundation
If the mud around the foundation of your home starts misbehaving, don’t just walk away. This mud is a crucial element of the structure of your house, and if it moves, your house could too. And we probably don’t need to detail why that’s bad news! Crumbling mud, moving mud, mud tubes that weren’t there before - these are all signs of subsidence (and creatures that could cause it!) and need to be addressed before you do anything else.
Critter Droppings
It’s actually very common to see pests like rats and mice in your house during the summer. Because of that, keep an eye out for the biggest sign of them: critter droppings. You’ll want to get an exterminator around as soon as possible if you do, as these pests rarely go away via homemade methods or on their own. And if you leave them for long enough? They could even cause structural damage by biting through wires, chewing out the walls, and replacing the mud under the foundation.
The Floor Is A Little Unbalanced
An unbalanced floor can be bad news for many reasons. Most of all, it’s hard to walk on! And secondly, it’s hard to place anything on. Your bookshelves, the sofa, any counters or tables could all tip if you place something too heavy on the surfaces.
If you’ve noticed the floor moving recently, again it could be a sign something is wrong with the foundation. However, it could also be the traffic flow in your home. If you’re constantly moving over the same areas, the floor beneath you could wear down quite quickly. Place anything there in the future and you could end up with a few broken possessions!

Weird Marks On The Walls
Marks on the walls could be a result of mold, improper heat extraction, or something else growing in the walls. And if you notice black or brown spots, white and/or chalky streaks, or even just wet patches here and there, you’ll want to do some investigating in the corners.
Are there any leaks? Is the flue around the fireplace opening and closing correctly? Is the heating and/or AC working well, with clean vents? Double check all of these things before you do anything else. Then look around for signs of bad wiring - you’ll be able to notice this easily if there’s also a ‘fishy’ smell in the air that occurs whenever you flick on the light.

Yes, summer can be a hard time for the home!
