Last summer I found camp. Now I don’t mean literally camping, I mean summer camp for adults. I called up my single guy friend and said “Let’s Go! I found a camp called Club Getaway.” Turns out, he was a veteran Club Getaway camper and said "absolutely".
Once at Getaway, I learned that there are many adult summer programs out there--from wine, to music, to camping and yoga and beyond. One thing that is prevalent among these camps is wanting to make sure campers are able to release, relax, and free themselves. If you want to be super active and go mountain biking, hiking, water skiing, and freefalling, summer camp programs for adults have it. On the other hand, if you want sip cocktails, lounge by the lake, eat amazing food, and get a tan they have got that too. Each staff member brings a different talent and skill that gets added to the weekend, which is how I learned how to swashbuckle (sword fight) from a professional action actor or how my friends belayed down the mountain with an expert mountain climber. Here are some top summer camps for adults that I recommend if you are looking for a lot of fun, a lot of sun, great food, good times and a little bit of everything else. Summer Camp Isn't Just For Children Anymore!

1. Club Getaway
Club Getaway in Kent, Connecticut was once called the Club Med of Connecticut and it is so true. It was one of the 1st adult camps and is having its 40th Year Celebration this year with a HUGE retro Memorial Day. Getaway has 10 adult weekends starting Memorial Day and going through until Labor Day and you don’t have to take vacation days to go. Club Getaway also has the most weekends out of any program out there and the most campers per weekend. They also have 8 family programming weekends and days if you want to come with your family. It hosts corporate getaway weekends, weddings, and children’s programming from inner city camps, Ys, and the girl scouts.
2. Camp Grounded
Camp Grounded is about freeing your spirit, totally disconnecting from technology, and experiencing your life. They have locations in NY State, California, Texas and 2 North Carolina weekends that last for 4 days. The rules are no job and no age asking, no alcohol, no watches, and adults only. This is a mix of a camping and “camp” experience - you can bring your own tent or stay in a cabin with sleeping bags. There are so many activities from the regular sports like kickball and dodgeball, water sports, and color war to other activities like letter writing, trivia, pickling, screen-printing, Capoeira, sweat lodge, and Lego building. On their website it says, “This is just like the camp you went as a kid… only designed for adults. All Inclusive, all ages (18-80), and all demographics. It’s about who you are, not what you do for a living. 100% IRL (in real life) Experiences. No screens. No Filters. No Big Data. No agenda. No bullshit. Just good old camp.” If you are looking to get off the grid, rest, and be surround by a supportive group this is definitely the camp for you.

3. Soul Camp
When I was looking at places to go, Soul Camp was on my list. I had friends who went and it was a great centering experience. This camp has two a 4-day camps in NY State (East Camp) and California (West Camp). The price tag is a little hefty but the camp looks like so much fun. What you get – real bunk housing with 12-15 people (co-ed or not), food, swag, and of course activities. For a true camp experience this has a set schedule for activities and a mandatory rest period after lunch. (I am not complaining!) The activities are focused on the soul with yoga, other exercise, foraging walks, relationship building and more.
Just like Camp Grounded if you want a centering experience but with a focus on yoga and alternative activities this is the place for you. 4. Wanderlust Festival
Wanderlust Festival is all about yoga with famous teachers, classes with live music, concerts, learning seminars, and local sustenance. These are hosted in ski resorts from Whistler to Mont Tremblant with 7 festivals from June to October. You are able to experience the mountains by taking the gondolas up the mountains and doing activities within the amazing scenery.
The goal of the camp – “At Wanderlust, our mission is to help you find your true north. True north is not a final destination: it’s a path, a journey, and a yearning to explore and connect to your life’s purpose.” 5. Wine Camp
Everyone is a wine lover in their own right and Wine Camp is for those who are truly devoted. It is a 4-day camp on the North Folk of Long Island. You get full accommodations, 5-course meal with 6 wine pairings, and a case of 12 wines. You are able to experience wineries along side winery owners and winemakers. You learn the history about the wines and go to many winery in the region. This is definitely an experience and I believe is worth the price!
Summer camps for adults are a great way to escape the daily grind, learn new skills, and make new friends. With all the activities they have to offer--from yoga to hiking to spending time on the water--these getaways create a sense of community and camaraderie while disconnecting, recharging and reconnecting with oneself. They offer a chance to step out of one's comfort zone, challenge oneself, and create lasting memories.
