2020 really put our budgeting skills to the test, with many of us having to find creative ways to save money. If you're looking for ways to cut costs and trim expenses (and really, who isn't?), we came up with a few small ways that can help you save money each month.
Small Ways You Can Save Money Each Month
Shopping Habits
Ideally when you go food shopping it is advisable to visit the grocery store after you have eaten. You are less likely to start making impulse purchases as you wander around the store then you would if you were feeling hungry. As a result you will not get a shock when you get to the till to find you have spent more than you intended to.
It is also useful to write a list on paper or on your smartphone so that you can try to stick to what you actually need as opposed to randomly adding items into your trolley.

Loyalty Cards
A lot of stores now have some form of loyalty card which you can easily sign up to online or download an app. The more times you make a purchase the more points you can accumulate, which you can then use towards future purchases. This is certainly an easy way to obtain discounts if it is a store you use frequently.
Switch From Bottled Water To Tap
Surprisingly the number of Americans that purchase bottled water each is considerably high. In 2019 alone, this equated to almost 15 billion gallons of bottled water that was bought and consumed. Very few Americans drink tap water (source).
If you find you are spending a lot of money each month on bottled water, have you ever considered if you should get a whole house well water filter? If you offset the cost of buying a water filter with installation fees, you might find it will still be less than all the bottles of water you buy on an annual basis.

Upcycle & Recycle
Finding ways to be more be eco-Friendly is important for our planet but also encourages less waste. Instead of throwing out items of furniture that you might have stored away in the attic, why not see if you can upcycle it by turning it into another piece of furniture to use indoors or perhaps in the garden instead. All you would need is some patience, creativity, paint, a few tools and some fabric to create something functional.
Declutter & Sell Unused Items
Sort through your closet to see how many items of clothing and accessories you really need. If you find there are items that you will not use then why not try to sell them online. You could use apps like Vinted, DePop or Ebay to sell your second hand or unworn clothes on. This would be another way of making a few dollars.
Self Teach
If you want to learn a new language, start learning a new instrument or learn how to make pretty accessories for your home. Instead of paying for a particular course to be taught this, you could attempt to learn yourself, by looking for online free tutorials. It would be another activity to keep yourself busy with, if you are still having to spend time at home.
