The front yard at your home is the first thing that people see you when they’re walking down the road. They will notice your front door colour, they’ll notice the paving you have leading up to the front door, and they will even take note of any garden ornaments and lighting that you might have. Owning a home could be a lot of work, when you have a large property and a large front yard, you still want to look impressive and stand out.
The good news is that with the right pavers, the right lighting, and even the best landscaping company you can find, you’ll be able to create a front yard you can be proud of. Do you want the space to stand out so people take notice? Do you want them to only notice your front yard in a positive way? Here’s how you can do that.

Simple Ways to Make Your Front Yard Stand Out
- Add some colour. A front yard that people take notice of is one that is full of life. It’s not just about having a square green lawn at the front, you want to bring colour and life to it. Plant some shrubbery in the front yard, and even a couple of tall bushes beside the doorway. Buy different types of flowers and plant them in spots that can get some excellent sunlight. You should also think about watering them frequently. Perennials like roses and chrysanthemums can bloom for multiple seasons and look fantastic – plus, you’ll be helping the bees.
- Trim back existing trees and bushes. Not only do you want your yard to look good but you want your house to look good. If you have trees, your garden is going to look fantastic, but they can overgrow and brush on your roof and your garage tops. Trim everything down if you can, and hire a service to do the trees. This will make sure that you can keep your hedges nice and consistent, and prevent any trees from whipping on the side of your house.
- Pull the weeds. Anybody who has plants will have weeds, and they can be an enemy in your front yard. The good news is that they are easy to spot, easy to kill, and easy to prevent. You can always hire a neighbourhood kid to come and do this for a little cash!
- Get to raking. Regularly raking the leaves in the front yard is a smart idea. While falling leaves in the autumn time look lovely, they can turn into some mulch if you don’t rake regularly. If you haven’t got the energy to rake properly grab a leaf blower and blow them away!
- Add some criss-cross lattice. That is a great way to cover up some of the unsightly areas of the front yard. Down by the outdoor steps, lattice can actually have the added effect of looking pretty and preventing small children from falling down the stairs. Vinyl lattice doesn’t have much maintenance involved; it's not particularly expensive either.
