Many of us have a dream home in mind. It's almost inescapable to have. We think about the perfect space to live in and automatically, we’ll judge and make suggestions about the home we’re currently in. but this can be positive. Translated into a modern approach, we can begin to self-style our home. Wait, is it that easy? No. A lot of us are in fact, teetering on the edge of decision. We don’t know whether we should throw in our lot. Should we really style our home, in our own style? What if it's a disaster? What if we ruin our home and have to reset it back to how it was? All of this is going to cost, so it's best you have your heart in it either way. Here’s what to consider.
Self-Styled Interior: Teetering On The Edge Of Decision
Start Small
Okay, so you don’t know whether you should or shouldn’t style your home in your own way. Let’s start small. Start by restyling your smallest room. This could be the bathroom, the dining area or just your home office. These spaces will be easiest to reset should you need to and usually, won’t cost you a lot of money to reshape anyway.
- Restyle the largest decor piece. Is it the dining table, the desk, or perhaps the bathtub or toilet.
- See what you can do to change the useful pieces i.e. bookcases, drawers, side tables and cabinets.
- Maybe you could change the lighting? This is an awesome approach because you can change the way a room looks just by the lighting.
Then Get Some Help!
Do you feel as if you don’t have the confidence to start by yourself? A trusted Interior Designer company can hold your hand and walk you through the various styles. Firstly, they will use case studies to show you how they approached a home and the owner. They can show you artwork drawings and sketches of what the home would look like overall when you have finished your style edition. This way you can see what your items and decor pieces would look like to scale, color and individual impact. They can’t perform miracles, but they can give you an insight into your own mind and what it would translate into the real world as.
Change The Seating
The obvious place to start would be the living room. The sofa and seating are a prime target. Start by selecting a totally new sofa. The most traditional but modern styles are going to be from a company called Saxon. As you can tell from the name, they are British in style. They make Chesterfields and Chaise models that are incredible. Using the best leather in the world, they make some brilliant seating options that have lasted in contemporary design for about 200 years.
If you don’t know where to start your self-styled home design mission, then take the guided route by working with an interior designer. But if you do know, you just need the ball to start rolling, then go with the seating or other smaller areas like tables, drawers, and or lighting.
