Believe it or not, the new year is fast approaching. This year has gone by in the blink of an eye and we’re about to wave goodbye to this year and embark on a fresh new journey. So, it’s not all too surprising that we’re going to want to get it off to a truly positive and happy start. This will help to set the standard for things to come! So, here are a few different things that you can do in order to really get the new year off to the best start possible!
New Year's Resolutions: Getting The New Year Off to the Best Start Possible!
Conduct A Deep Clean
A clean house makes for a clear mind. It’s much easier to kick back and relax in a neat and tidy home space than it is in an space that is messy and cluttered. Instead of waiting for the spring, conduct a deep clean (and thorough purge) of your entire home now. This means steam cleaning, shampooing, mopping, and scrubbing. Throw away or donate any items you haven't used in at least a year. This includes clothes that don't fit any more (trust me--you really won't wear those low-rise jeans you bought in 2006 after you lose ten pounds), shoes that have seen better days and outdated or worn accessories like belts, purses, scarves and costume jewelry. If you don’t have time or patience to do this yourself, look into hiring a professional cleaning service. It may seem like an indulgence but professional cleaners are there to help you. Why not take advantage of it?
Organize Your Affairs
Invest in a planner so that you can truly organize your affairs. Sure, you may be able to track appointments and a maintain your schedule with your phone now, but there is something truly zen about using a physical planner. Personally, I love to sit down on a Sunday morning, coffee in hand, and plan my week. I love to get creative with stickers and washi tape too. There are some fantastic shops on Etsy that have sticker collections for just about every taste and style. Here are a few of my favorites:

Clear Up Arguments
I know someone who, when feeling slighted or wronged, will end a friendship by distancing themselves and ultimately cutting off the friendship, instead of confronting the person to talk about their feelings in a tactful, mature way. As an adult, ghosting someone who may be completely clueless as to what they've done is one of the most immature, irresponsible things a grown person can do to another, and only fosters resentment between yourself and them.
If you feel there are any disagreements or you feel tension brewing between yourself and others, the time to clear the air is now.
If confrontation makes you uncomfortable, there's nothing wrong with dropping an email or sending a note--yes, through the mail. You will have their undivided attention, without interruption, and you can speak your mind succinctly and concisely. Offer to hear their side of things and--should the situation call for it--extend an olive branch. A new year is the perfect time to turn a fresh page and set out to clear up arguments without holding any grudges against each other. And if things don't work out, hey, at least you can say you tried.
Consider A New Hobby
Hobbies are extremely beneficial to one's wellbeing. After all, a hobby allows you to engage with something that is outside of your professional and social life, giving you the opportunity to spend time doing something you genuinely enjoy. This ultimately leads to a greater sense of self worth and fulfillment. If you'd like to consider a new hobby but aren't sure what tickles your fancy, think about taking a free online course or class too whet your appetite. Here's a few that you can try that are not only great for extracurricular activities, but can help you in your professional life, too!

Kick Bad Habits
Most of us have some sort of bad habit. I sure do! Sometimes, a bad habit can be relatively harmless, like nail biting or procrastinating. But other bad habits can impede our health and / or affect others around us. The new year is a great time to think about what you can do to overcome your bad habits. If you have a bad habit that is detrimental to your health, like drinking or smoking, speak to your health care professional. Don't ever feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help, especially when it comes to improving your health and well-being.
