With the new year comes the 20s..2020, that is! And what a perfect way to usher in the new year than by donning a '20s flapper dress, that you can make yourself, in less than ONE HOUR.
Learn How To Make A 1920s Flapper Dress In One Hour
The "One Hour Flapper Dress" was created by Mary Brooks Picken, an American author of nearly 100 books on needlework, sewing, and textile arts. Mary founded the Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. When she debuted her One Hour Dress, many didn't believe it was created in such a short amount of time. So the dress was made in a public demonstration at the Grand Central Palace in New York City. It was made in 34 minutes, a fact that was recorded in the city newspapers and attested to by officials at the National Merchandise Fair.
The dress is super easy to create: The original One Hour Dress is a short-sleeved, one-piece pattern shaped like a T with the fullness of the sides being gathered at the hips, but there are variations of this pattern which means you can create several different One Hour Dresses. You can use any sort of fabric, but the pattern works best with organic fabrics like muslin, linen or cotton.
