I thought I'd try something a little different this week on the blog, and hand the reigns over to my son, Jeremy! Jeremy's going to tell you a bit about how he starts his day, and let you know about a few of his favorite grooming products. Take it away, Jeremy!
My Son's Morning Routine (With Harry's Razors)When I was little, my mom used to call getting ready for bed (or getting ready for school) doing our “bathroom chores”. I can still remember hearing her sing-songing “time for bathroom chores!” throughout the house, trying to find all us kids. Doing bathroom chores basically meant brushing our teeth, combing our hair, washing our face--that sort of thing. Even though I’m older now, I still call getting ready in the bathroom doing my “bathroom chores”. I guess there are some things you just don’t outgrow. Here’s what I do in the morning, before I start my day. First off, coffee’s on. Since my girlfriend is a Starbucks barista, I get to be her guinea pig and try all sorts of hot and cold coffee drinks. But in the morning, it’s strictly a cup (or two!) of hot coffee. Right now I’m loving Starbuck’s anniversary blend. It’s a little bit spicy and and bold, which is perfect for starting my day. Next, I head to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I use Tom’s of Maine Whole Care toothpaste. It fights cavities, whitens teeth and freshens breath without artificial dyes, sweeteners or flavors. The best part is that it’s cruelty free, which is important to an animal lover like me. It’s also gluten free and kosher, if those things are important to you. My favorite mouthwash by far is Colgate Optic White in fresh mint. It’s alcohol free with a clean mint taste. It foams up a bit when you swish it around in your mouth, which really helps to get to into places that you might miss when you’re brushing. And it doesn't sting and cause me to curse like a drunken sailor like some of those other mouthwashes do! After taking care of my teeth, I wash my face. I’m not really brand loyal when it comes to face products; I pretty much just use whatever my mom has laying around. But lately she’s been on my case to find products made for my own skin type. I get it! But in the meantime, I’m using her Olay Daily Facial Cloths. These things rock! I just wet them and they lather right up. The cloth is slightly exfoliating so I get a good scrub going and get whatever dirt is on my skin right off. A simple rinse with warm water and my skin feels great! Next, I get down to shaving. Usually, I use a popular name brand razor and it’s fine, I have no complaints. But today I was lucky enough to get my hands on a shave kit from Harry’s Razors, which I couldn’t wait to try out. I have heard such good things about Harry’s, including the price, so I was excited to give it a shot.
Harry’s is a subscription shave service that was created by Jeff Raider & Andy Katz-Mayfield, whose goal was to create a shaving brand different from the others. Because they sell online, they are able to deliver a high quality product at pretty affordable price points.
According to Harry’s website, “a team of over 600 expert designers, craftsman, chemists and engineers build their products from the finest materials and ingredients using an exacting production process to ensure they deliver exceptional performance.” They also own their own factory in Germany, which means they own and oversee their entire process. That’s nuts!
I’m using products from the Truman Set in Nautilus Blue, which retails on Harry’s website for $15. The entire kit includes:
Now the razor itself has 6 blades (five standard blades and one precision shaving blade), with a flex hinge and a lubricating strip. I like the razor handle, it’s pretty lightweight and almost ergonomic, and very comfortable in my hand.
Since my beard really isn’t rough (in fact it’s kind of sparse in certain places), I can get a pretty close shave with 5 blades. But precision shaving blade #6 really made a difference for me. I was able to get around my sideburns and mustache no problem, which at 6 a.m. CAN be a problem, believe me.

As for the shave itself, it’s smooth and precise with no nicks or cuts whatsoever. To be honest, the Harry’s razor performed much like my Gillette Fusion, but at a fraction of the price. I can usually pick up a 4 pack refill of Fusion cartridges on Amazon for about $17. But an 8 pack of Harry’s is only $15. That’s twice the amount of refills for $2 less than a 4 pack of Gillette Fusions. It’s a no-brainer.
I should mention that I really like the shave gel, too. It lathers into a nice foam and helps glide the razor over the curves of my face effortlessly. It smells like a nice cologne, very masculine, but not too heavy or strong. My girlfriend loves it!
Another bonus of Harry’s Storm set is the razor stand and the blade cover. I like how I can keep this awesome razor covered and safe (perfect for travel) while keeping it handy right on the sink. Score. If you head over to Harry’s, you can check out a free trial, which includes a Truman Razor with a blade, foaming shave gel, and a travel blade cover. Just pay $3 shipping. That's a whole lot of very impressive product for just $3! By the way, the trial kit should last you about 2 weeks, depending on your shaving habits. I gotta thank my mom for letting me try out Harry’s. I definitely give it 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up. I subscribed to the 8x Harry’s blades, which I’ll receive every 3 months at only $15. Gotta tell ya, that sure beats that other brand!
Thanks, Jeremy for an honest and awesome review! The minute I saw this kit I knew you’d love it.
