How You Can Makeover A Small Bedroom
Small bedrooms can be cozy spaces when they are made over and dressed correctly. When designing a small bedroom, you have to plan out what you want to do to ensure you get the best results. Without careful planning you may end up with a room that feels overbearing and claustrophobic.
How You Can Makeover A Small Bedroom
Use Suitable Furniture
You will find that larger furniture will dominate a small bedroom, and this is, of course not what you want. Instead, you should try to use suitable furniture where you can. This means using a small single bed 2ft 6 instead of trying to squash a double bedframe in. It also means using smaller wardrobes and closets and slimmer or thinner furniture to ensure that furniture does not stick out too much into the room.
Think Carefully About The Color Scheme
You may want a deep and luxurious color on the walls, but is that going to work well? Is that going to make the space feel smaller and more cramped than it actually is? Dark colors can be sumptuous and luxurious when they are used in larger bedrooms; however when they are applied to the walls in smaller rooms, they can feel a little oppressive and restrictive. Sticking to color schemes that are more neutral and perhaps even earthier will work well. Lighter colors will brighten a space.
Use The Height Where Possible
Even if you do not have the wall space to work with, you will hopefully have the height of the room to utilize. When you can go higher with furniture and with accessories, you can elongate a room and make up for its physical size. When you go higher, you move the focus and the eye. You draw it to where you want it to be drawn (which is on the height) and not on the width or physical size. If you do not have the height in a room to utilize, then think carefully about light fittings and fixtures. Do not add drop pendants or lights, as these will make the space feel even smaller.
Make Use Of Natural Light Sources
Natural light is essential in a small bedroom. Make sure you use all the natural light you have available when you are making over the room. This means looking at how you dress windows, and it means looking at removing excessive window dressings such as heavy drapes or blackout blinds. Letting in the Natural light will make a space feel light, bright, and airy.
Add Artificial Lighting
Even if you struggle to get enough natural light into a small bedroom, nothing stops you from adding a little artificial lighting. Wall sconces, mirrors that reflect, and even table lamps can help brighten up a smaller, darker bedroom. Before adding lighting, always see the bedroom at multiple points throughout the day. See how well-lit the room is in the morning and as the day progresses. When you do this, you can then add lighting in suitable places and ensure you are not lighting up an already light corner or area of a room.
