Now that the harsh conditions of winter are finally behind us, we can start to look forward to a fun summer enjoying the warm weather and going on holiday with our family. Today, we are going to take a look at some of the fun and simple DIYs you can do around the house to make the most of your home and refresh it for spring.
DIY Home Improvement Projects You Can Try This Spring
Check Your Roof
The first thing you should consider doing during early spring is a visual inspection of your roof. It's important to perform a visual inspection of your roof at least every 2 years, after 10 years of it's original install. After 15 years, your roof should be inspected at least once a year. And always check your roof immediately after a serious storm has passed and it's safe to do so. Spring is the time of year to consider a home roof replacement, since winter weather can be unforgiving and can damage tiles, flashing and gutters. If you think it's time for a new roof, call a reputable roofing company and ask them to provide you with an estimate. Many roofing companies can provide you with financing, making the cost of a new roof a little easier to bear.
Lay Out The Loft
Spring is a time for fresh starts, and a lot of us will take some time to declutter the house this time of year. If you're decluttering the attic, take some extra time to give it a good spring cleaning. Sweep away the cobwebs and consider laying new, inexpensive flooring (a peel and stick tile works great for this application). If you have the space, add a shelving unit or two, and organize your stuff using clear storage bins and a label maker. This will make a HUGE impact on arranging your space and will allow you to be more organized going forward. This is another rewarding weekend project with a huge payoff!
Create A Floral Garland
When it comes to spring DIYs, what could be more appropos than adding bits floral decor in and around your home? A great DIY project is to create a simple flower garland with some string, floral wire, faux flowers and glue. Check out the tutorials below. It's a great craft to do on a rainy day or as a birthday party craft with the kids, too!

Hang An Herb Garden
One of the rooms of the house which can become particularly important during the warmer months is the kitchen. We all love food, and being able to cook delicious meals and entertain our friends can be great fun. If you've got the wall space, try installing a vertical herb garden to a plain wall for added color and texture to the room. A vertical herb garden provides you with a great design piece as well as fresh ingredients for cooking!
Sow Some Seeds
With spring almost here, we have the ideal chance to make some changes to our outdoor garden and get it ready for the warmer days ahead. Now is the perfect time to start sowing seeds in the garden and creating a stunning display for the months ahead. Take some time choosing different plants and flowers, such as an assortment of pansies or marigolds, or perhaps even a rose bush or two.
Refresh The Walls
The simplest way to make a big impression on your home this year is to paint the walls a bright, new color and to have some fun with an accent wall. A new color can refresh a tired room and bring a wonderful new atmosphere to it.
If you don't want to commit to a new color, try peel and stick wallpaper on just one wall. What a gorgeous backdrop a floral garden, a blue water beach or a stunning city skyline can be!

DIY Some Cushions
If you feel as if your living room looks a little bit boring, or you want to freshen up the room for spring, add a few new cushions to the sofa and chairs for a bit of color and whimsy. The difference a couple of cushions can make to your living room is crazy good, and it's something you can put together pretty quickly without spending lots of dough. Amazon has different size pillow forms that are ready to be covered with all sorts of covers that you can buy separately. They're so inexpensive that you can switch them out for every season, holiday or whenever the mood strikes!
Update The Bathroom
Our bathrooms are one area of the home that we don’t change and update nearly as often as other rooms, and this is probably due to the perceived cost and time it takes to carry out the jobs. However, you can update the look for spring by buying inexpensive bathroom accessories, such as a new shower curtain, bath mat, trash can, toothbrush holder, soap dish and lotion dispenser. Swap out artwork with free printables from the internet, and add a plant or two. You can even try peel and stick mosaic tile to accent your sink's backsplash. Search Pinterest for more bathroom decor and get inspired to try something new.
Open Up The Space
Spring is made for spring cleaning (natch!), and if you want to be able to enjoy the space in your home to the max, then give your home a good old fashioned spring cleaning. This is a DIY which costs next to nothing and yet will make a huge impact on you and your well being. Not only will a clean and tidy home be less stressful, imagine coming home at the end of a long work day to a home that's neat and fresh. We all want to be able to chill out in a spacious home environment, and cleaning up and giving your home a decent clutter cleanout will make the house feel brand new.
Once upon a time I wrote a lengthy blog post about Spring cleaning. I have no idea what happened to it, but I suppose it's floating out in cyberspace somewhere. Thankfully, we have this incredible infographic which is, admittedly, 100 times better than my wordy blog post.
