Brilliant Ways To Put Your Basement To Use
Not all of us are lucky enough to have a basement in our home. Those of us who do own a basement tend to use it as nothing more than a storage room. However, a basement can be so much more than somewhere for storing junk. Below are just some of the best uses for a basement.
Brilliant Ways To Put Your Basement To Use
A home cinema
Basements typically don’t have much natural light coming in. This makes them inappropriate for some purposes (such as growing indoor plants), but perfect for other purposes such as setting up a home cinema. This could be a great room to set up if you are an avid cinephile. You can set up a projector or opt for a large TV screen. There are companies that specialize in home theater solutions that can set up smart surround sound speakers. When it comes to seating, consider buying some home theater chairs with drink/popcorn holders for that authentic cinema experience.
A home gym
A basement could also be the perfect place to put a home gym. These rooms are easier to keep cool in the summer heat and will offer a degree of soundproofing so that neighbors aren’t woken up by noisy machinery if you decide to plan an early morning workout. You may not even have to invest in too much interior decoration to make the space usable as a gym - covering concrete flooring with a softer flooring option is recommended, but you could just lay down some rubber tiles.
A games room
A basement could make a great recreation room for playing games. There may be space for a pool table, a dart board and even a bowling alley. You could also put a TV and a couch down here for playing video games with friends. If you love board games, you could also set up a table here where you can keep board games out to stop and resume at your leisure.
An office/study
If you need a quiet zone for concentration, the basement could also make a good solution. It could be ideal for a private home office, allowing you to conduct Zoom calls and focus on tasks without being disturbed by other members of the household. Kids could also use it for studying. You could even place all your bookshelves here and turn it into a private library.
A guest bedroom
Having an extra guest bedroom is always handy. The basement could make the ideal space for a guest bedroom. With larger basements, you may even be able to consider adding an en suite bathroom.
A downstairs bathroom
Think you could benefit from an extra bathroom? A basement could be ideal for this purpose. Larger basements could even be turned into private spa rooms with freestanding baths, a large walk-in shower, a sauna or even a hot tub. Just make sure that this space is well ventilated in order to prevent mold growth (if there are no windows, you’ll need to add extraction fans).
